What you tell yourself matters. Your brain believes what you repeat. Affirmations rewire the neural pathways that addiction carved. Practice these daily. Morning and night. Out loud if possible. Your nervous system hears your voice.
Close your eyes. Notice your feet. Ankles. Calves. Shins. Knees. Thighs. Hips. Belly. Chest. Back. Shoulders. Arms. Hands. Neck. Face. Just notice. Don't change anything. This brings you into your body and the present moment.
Watch your breath. In. Out. In. Out. Don't control it. Just notice. When your mind wanders (and it will), gently return. That's the practice. This calms your nervous system.
Think of 3-5 things you're grateful for today. Small things count. Warm coffee. A call from a friend. Made it through the day sober. Gratitude shifts your brain chemistry.
Silently say: "May I be safe. May I be healthy. May I be happy. May I live with ease." Then extend to someone you care about. Then to a difficult person. Then to all beings. This builds compassion.
Walk slowly. Feel each footstep. Notice the ground beneath you. The air around you. Sounds. Sights. No destination. Just present. This brings you back to now.
Morning: Say your affirmations. Do a 5-minute meditation or body scan.
Throughout the day: Pause and take 3 conscious breaths. Notice one thing you're grateful for.
Evening: Loving-kindness meditation or gratitude reflection. Notice what you're proud of from the day.
